Quick dumb questions here - the reason I’ve always been long only is because of risk with highly volatile stocks + it’s often a pain to find shares.
Question 1: is it easy to get shares to short with on the Emini?
Question 2: can I even trade the Emini on Interactive Brokers long & short?
You didnt mention which timeframe you are trading.😀
Shorting, or buying any instrument intraday (on say, a 5min chart) is equal if the setup is good (your assessment of risk, reward and probability is good).
To me, shorting stocks (and stock indicies) on a daily timeframe isnt so easy because when the stock market falls or corrects down significantly, it tends to fall fast. And often recovers fast. In my assessment😀.
I have often wondered about a strategy of only being long the stockmarket, on the daily timeframe, but flat when it closes below the ema21. In the long run it may be the same as buy and hold for the long term, but at least you avoid the mental trauma of large crashes e.g. the pandemic crash.😀
Forex is different because shorting a pair is also buying the other side of the pair.😀
I don’t think you need to borrow shares to short the emini the way shares are borrowed to short a stock. So there is never an unavailability of emini “shares” to short because eminis are futures contracts, not equities.
