Hi - Al mentions ONLY using charts. I'd like to understand a bit more about why Al doesn't find market data to be useful for his trading style. Thank you!

Al talks in many places about how he came to trade the way he does. For Level 2 data, I have had discussions with Al on the topic as I do find it useful, with the right tools, and it can certainly support price action trading. With Al being a math grad I would have thought he would get into Level 2, automation, and such. But, what Al found is that he doesn't need anything other than the naked chart. Like most traders, Al went through indicators (even programming his own), market profile training with Peter S., mentoring, reading dozens (hundreds?) of books, etc., etc. In the end he threw it all away and just focused on the 5 minute chart and price action, as he found that is all he needs to enjoy trading, have an edge (a higher probability of winning) and thus make a living.
Search on site for "market profile", "time & sales" and "order flow support" and you will find Al's thoughts on these related topics. You will also find me having a different view altogether. Everyone needs to find a trading style they enjoy, and can give them an edge. For Al, that does not involve or need Level 2 data.
