Should beginner actively manage his trades and exit when he thinks it is appropriate, or just rely on his stop loss and profit target?

No right or wrong for that question but if you are relatively new, you will not be able to manage the trade correctly, so maybe it is better to rely on your bracket order until you get more experience. First, learn to pick good entries, and once you are reasonably confident with that, you can start managing your trades.
