Do black swan events happen on the e-mini within the day session?
For example> trader buys at "x" with stop at x-10 points. A black swan event creates a huge gap down and trader is stopped out at x-50 points.
I know to avoid FOMC days, but the question is regarding unknown major events causing major gaps, up or down.
The emini trades 23/6 (- various holidays) so unless you hold during a period when it is not trading, you're very unlikely to see any gaps.* What's more likely is that you lose internet connection during a trade... It happens, so plan for it. With most brokers, you can place an OCO order which will automatically place a stop and take profit order along with your initial entry. Therefore, there is no reason not to have a stop in place 100% of the time. Also, keep your broker's trade desk phone number handy so you can call quickly if needed. Another good idea is to not keep any more money in your trading account than you can afford to lose.
*There were a few occasions in 2020 where the S&P hit limit down. I'm not sure how big the gaps were when it reopened but if you were trading then, you must have known that volatility was crazy high and to expect the unexpected.
