Al said that the trend slows down and goes through the breakout, tight channel, broad channel, trading range but he doesn't mention exactly when a tight channel becomes a broad channel. Is there any specific rule for when a tight channel becomes a broad channel?
Hi Newton,
It depends on what kind of trading style dominates. In a tight channel it's easier to enter with limits in the direction of the prevailing move by fading reversal attempts because entering with stops is often into the TCL already. It's also very hard to trade a tight channel countertrend. In a broad channel it's easy to buy lows and sell highs, often with stops because it's so wide and traders treat it much like a trading range.
Hope that helped!
